Oklahoma's 60-Day Short-Term Medical Marijuana License: Who It's For, Cost and How to Apply

Oklahoma's short-term medical marijuana license is a 60-day patient license for Oklahoma residents whose need is shorter than the standard two-year license period. It has the same requirements and the same fee as the two-year adult license: proof of identity, proof of Oklahoma residency, a photo, a physician recommendation, and $100 plus a $4.30 card processing fee (or $20 plus $2.50 with qualifying Medicaid, Medicare or 100% disabled veteran status).

This page summarizes what the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) publishes. It isn't legal advice, and fees and rules change, so confirm the details on OMMA's patient licenses page before you apply.

    Key facts

    • Who it's for: Oklahoma residents. OMMA describes it as being for "patients whose need for medical marijuana or medical marijuana products is for a shorter duration than the full two-year license period."
    • How long it lasts: 60 days from the issue date, unless revoked by the physician or OMMA (OMMA FAQs).
    • Cost: $100 plus a $4.30 credit card processing fee, nonrefundable. Reduced to $20 plus $2.50 with proof of enrollment in Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare, or 100% disabled veteran status.
    • Physician: a signed Physician Recommendation Form (Adult Patient), dated within 30 days of your application, from an OMMA-registered physician.
    • Processing: OMMA processes patient applications within 14 business days.
    • Not for visitors: out-of-state residents use the separate 30-day out-of-state license instead.

Who is the 60-day license for?

The short-term license exists for Oklahoma residents whose physician expects a limited period of need. OMMA's license table lists it as open to "Oklahoma residents of any age," with extra steps for patients under 18.

It isn't a cheaper or easier version of the standard license. The paperwork and fee match the two-year adult license, so the main difference is how long the license stays valid. If you expect to be a patient for longer than two months, compare the two before you pay, since each application carries its own nonrefundable fee.

What do you need to apply?

OMMA's requirements for the short-term license match the adult license:

    1. Proof of identity: such as an Oklahoma driver's license or ID, or a U.S. passport.
    2. Proof of Oklahoma residency: OMMA lists accepted documents on its patient licenses page.
    3. An acceptable photo: a clear, color, full-face digital photo. OMMA publishes photo requirements.
    4. A signed physician recommendation: the Physician Recommendation Form (Adult Patient), dated within 30 days of the date you apply. OMMA's example: if your physician signs on Sept. 30, submit by Oct. 30.
    5. A caregiver designation form, if needed: only when the physician indicates a caregiver is needed.

For patients under 18, OMMA requires a second physician to sign the Physician Recommendation Form (Minor Patient), and a parent or guardian provides ID, residency proof and a photo and signs the application.

OMMA also offers a patient application checklist that's worth printing before you start.

Does my physician need to be OMMA-registered?

Yes. Since January 1, 2026, any recommendation dated on or after that date must come from a physician who has completed medical marijuana education and been approved and registered by OMMA (OMMA notice). OMMA keeps a voluntary registered physicians list; some registered physicians choose not to appear on it, so ask yours directly.

    How much does it cost?

    • Standard fee: $100 plus a $4.30 credit card processing fee.
    • Reduced fee: $20 plus a $2.50 processing fee with proof of Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare enrollment, or 100% disabled veteran status. For Medicaid, OMMA asks for proof of eligibility showing coverage start and end dates, in addition to your Medicaid card.
    • Payment: OMMA lists Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit or debit cards.

The fee is nonrefundable, including if the application is denied.

How do you apply, and how long does it take?

    1. Start from OMMA's apply page, which leads to the OMMA licensing portal.
    2. Upload your documents, photo and signed recommendation, and pay the fee.
    3. OMMA reviews applications within 14 business days and emails you after review.
    4. If approved, the card takes one or two more business days to print and is mailed by first-class mail.

You can check where things stand on OMMA's application status page. Because the license runs 60 days from the issue date, some of that window passes while the card is in the mail.

Short-term license vs. two-year license vs. out-of-state license

    • Short-term (60 days): Oklahoma residents; same documents and fee as the adult license.
    • Adult (2 years): Oklahoma residents 18 and older; same documents and fee.
    • Out-of-state (30 days): residents of other states who hold a state-government-issued medical marijuana license; $100 plus $4.30, no reduced fee, no Oklahoma physician form needed.

Using your license at a dispensary

OMMA says you must present your patient license every time you buy at a dispensary, and the dispensary must verify it. Bring it with a matching photo ID. FAQ

How long is Oklahoma's short-term medical marijuana license valid?

60 days from the issue date, unless revoked by the physician or OMMA, according to OMMA's FAQs.

Is the 60-day license cheaper than the two-year license?

No. Both cost $100 plus a $4.30 card processing fee, or $20 plus $2.50 for qualifying Medicaid, Medicare or 100% disabled veteran applicants.

Can out-of-state visitors get the 60-day license?

No. It's for Oklahoma residents. Residents of other states with a state-issued medical marijuana license can apply for OMMA's 30-day out-of-state license.

Can a 60-day license be renewed or converted to a two-year license?

OMMA's patient pages we reviewed don't describe a renewal or conversion process for the short-term license. Contact OMMA directly before your license expires to ask about your options.

How recent does the physician recommendation need to be?

It must be dated within 30 days of the date you submit your application, and for recommendations dated January 1, 2026, or later, the physician must be OMMA-registered.
